Under new regulations coming into force on September 1, employers will be obliged to sign a written contract or confirm its terms in writing before an employee starts work.
"The changes give a guarantee of legal employment, and therefore job security and comfort for employees", Minister Elzbieta Rafalska was quoted as saying in a press release of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.
Previous regulations allowed employers to complete the formalities of hiring an employee by the end of that person's first day of work. This enabled them to delay the procedure and in case of an inspection - to argue that it was the employee's first day, which facilitated illegal employment.
The amended law is to prevent such practices and enable employees to enjoy their full rights as well as making it easier for inspectors to uncover illegal employment. (PAP, 29 August 2016)
