Next year's spending on defence in Poland is planned to exceed PLN 37.3 billion, up by PLN 1.4 billion from 2016.

In accordance with binding laws, as of 2017 spending on defence cannot be lower than at least 2 percent GDP recorded in the previous year. A draft budget law for 2017 envisages defence spending at 2.01 percent of GDP planned for 2016.

Over PLN 10 billion or 27.2 percent of the defence budget will be spent on arms and equipment purchases, modernisation and construction investments. Scientific research and development is to receive PLN 929 million or 2.5 percent of the defence budget. (PAP, 30 August 2016)
